Reading the Bible, you’ll discover diverse kinds of prayers. Prayers in our life has significance, it is to know what kind of prayer to be prayed and when to pray it. There are three different types of prayer: Supplication, Intercession and Praise or Thanksgiving.
SUPPLICATION means to plead. Modestly or humbly asking for something. “Praying always with all prayer
And supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints” as affirmed in Eph 6:18. Elijah and Solomon were men of prayer. We perceive in James 5:17-18 Elijah was a man with environment like ours, he prayed sincerely that it would not rain, and for three years and six months the land doesn’t taste any rain. Then he prayed again, and the God in heaven heard his prayer and gave rain, the earth created its fruit. We notice 1 king 8:54-55 and so it was, when Solomon had ended praying supplication to the Lord, that he arise from before the altar of the Lord, from kneeling with his hands extended up to heaven. Then he stood and sanctified all the congregation of Israel.
Praying the supplication will change stuffs. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God” Philippians 4:6.
Pertaining to mutually natural and spiritual needs not only to ourselves but also for all we can pray the prayers supplication. Avowed in 1 Tim 2:1-2 we are also to pray for those who are in authority, including the unbeliever. Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men. For kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and reverence.
A further kind of prayer is intercession. To arbitrate on behalf of another means to intercede. Seeing example of Jesus and the Holy Spirit praying prayers of intercession for us. “Therefore Jesus is also able to save the uttermost who come to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them” in Hebrews 7:25. “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groaning which cannot uttered. 27- Now who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because he makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God” stated in Romans 8:26-27.
Praying earnestly for others, that is Prayer for intercession. We should cross the threshold with our heart. Love and cares about the belongings that God cares about.
The most vital kind of prayer is the praise or thanksgiving. When we praise God in any situation may be positive or negative we assert our faith in him. This does not only pleases God but helps us to strengthen our faiths.
The weapon used by the believer is the prayer of prayer of praise or thanksgiving. It protects and destroys the grasp of Satan in our life. Equally can patent in different ways. In Psalm 149:4-9 “For the lord takes pleasure in his people; He will beautify the humble with salvation”. 5- “let the saints be joyful in glory; Let them sing aloud on their beds”. 6-“Let the high praises of God be their mouth and a two edges sword in their hand”. 7-“To execute vengeance on the nations, ad punishment on the people”. 8-“To bind their chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron”. 9-“To execute on them the written judgment, this honor have all his Saints. Praise the Lord”.
All the form prayers has its importance, it has place and plays a vital role in our lives as Christians. It’s essential to pray a diversity of prayers depending on the situation happening in your life and the people around you. We should remember that we must pray daily specially the prayer of praise or thanksgiving. This would strengthen our faith in God.
